I have an Aiptek A-HD-DV 720p Camcorder that hooks up to my computer through a USB port. I have switched the resolution to 352X240 (CIF) (WEB) on my camcorder to see if that would help, but I am still unable to use/figure out how to use my camcorder as a webcam. I know there has to be a good/easy way in doing this. I’ve checked the manual, but it doesn’t seem to have what I want nor does the CD. Is there a piece of free software that can help me get around this? I really need/want to be able to get this to work. Do you have any suggestions (software or otherwise) at all that might help?

If not, I also have a HP Photosmart M517 Digital Camera that also hooks up via USB. Is that possible to use as a webcam?

Either way – I do not hold video quality as a priority right now, I just want to be able to get one of these two devices to work as a webcam.

Again, your help is greatly appreciated.

I have an Aiptek HD-DV Camcorder and HP Photosmart M517 digital camera. Is there a way to use one as a webcam? I can’t seem to find a straight answer, but I really wish that there was a way to use either one for a webcam. Your help would be greatly appreciated. I have been looking at this camcorder http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Aiptek-Media-Player-and-Video-Recorder-Camcorder-PDVR/sem/rpsm/oid/171735/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do#tabs as a birthday gift for someone I know. My question is, how do you connect it to a computer and will you be able to play it back on your computer? If you look under specificiations it says there is no USB and no iLink, but it also says there is a USB cable in the box. Also, will this format play on Windows Media Player, and will I be able to transfer it to Windows Movie Maker?

I’ve been looking at Sanyo, Samsung, Canon, and Sony but none of them have files that are compatible with Windows Movie Maker. Aiptek cameras don’t count because they are crappy cameras. $400 at the most.

I set up my Aiptek camera on top of my TV so I could record a show. It was in the middle of the day. When I finished, the screen looked fine until it went back to video camera mode, where I noticed a burnt image of the camera’s view during the time it was recording my show. I thought at first it was burnt into the screen so I recorded footage in my room and then put in on the computer. The burnt image showed up in the footage I took. It doesn’t show the burnt image when it shows the start up screen, the menu, or anything else besides the video camera option. What happened and is it fixable?
Since asking this question, I have noticed that the image has slowly started to go away if I focus my camera on a bright area for a few seconds.. (the burnt image was in an area with sunshine reflecting). If anyone could still tell me what happened, that would be great.
